Obituary
Tom Robinson 1912-1935
Tom Robinson died October 11th, 1935 while exercising at the Algoma County Jail. He was shot over seven times.
Tom was a devoted husband, father, and hard worker. When he was a young boy, he got his left arm caught in a cotton gin and it tore the muscles from his arm. This forced him to overcome problems he faced. He devoted his time to helping others, so when Miss Mayella Ewell asked him for his help, he couldn’t refuse. Little did Tom know, this would change his life.
Tom was charged with the rape of Mayella Ewell. She said he "hit her, choked her, and took advantage of her." Atticus Finch proved that Tom did not rape Miss Ewell, but unfortunately, the 12 men on the jury found him guilty of rape and sent him off to prison. He was caught escaping during exercise time and was shot and killed. There will be a small service for Tom at First Purchase African M.E. Church in Maycomb, Alabama. Tom is preceded in death by his mother, grandmother, and grandfather. He is survived by his father, his wife, Helen and their three children.
