Introduction

For the past few weeks, my English class has been reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It is a great book to read and I had a lot of fun learning about all of the characters in Maycomb, Alabama. For our final project, we had to create a website by choosing six genres to show our understanding about To Kill A Mockingbird.
The seven genres I chose to do, were writing two newspaper articles about events that happened. I chose to write about Boo saving Jem and Scout and Miss Maudie's house burning down. For the obituary, I chose to write about Tom Robinson because he was an influential character that sparked the need for change in Maycomb. My recipe is a cake recipe for racism because racism was very present in the 1930's, especially in a community dominated by whites, like Maycomb. I drew a map of Maycomb to show where important characters lived and where important events took place. I wrote a poem about justice because Tom didn't get justice. He didn't get any justice because he was an uneducated African American in the south during the 1930's. The book review talks about how Harper Lee used different elements like characterization, mood, and foreshadowing to help the reader understand different events, characters, and actions made by the characters. It also teaches about the racism and prejudice in the 1930's. One of it's themes is taking a walk in someone else's shoes. This theme really showed throughout the whole book. The alternate ending changes what happened to Jem and Scout. They make it home safely and instead of Bob killing himself, Mayella gets revenge and kills him in his sleep.
To Kill A Mockingbird is great book. I hope that you enjoy this website and the genres that I have chosen. It was a lot of fun to make the genres and the website. Enjoy!
